7 Luxury Honeymoon Destinations in Europe I'm Recommending for 2027
7 Luxury Honeymoon Destinations in Europe I'm Recommending for 2027
One thing I see often when couples begin planning their honeymoon is that they immediately gravitate toward the destinations they've seen all over Instagram: the Amalfi Coast, Santorini, Paris, etc.
And while those places are popular for a reason, they're not always the destinations I'm most excited about recommending.
Many of my clients are looking for something that feels a bit more personal. Somewhere beautiful, romantic, and luxurious, but maybe not the exact same itinerary everyone else from their wedding season is booking.
If you're planning a luxury honeymoon for 2027 and want something a little different, these are the destinations I'm recommending most often right now.
What Makes a Great Luxury Honeymoon Destination?
Before we dive in, it's worth reiterating that the best honeymoon destination isn't necessarily the most famous one.
When I'm helping couples choose a destination, I typically look at four things:
Beautiful hotels
Great food (and wine, if they’re into that)
Ease of getting there/around
Experiences that feel memorable without feeling rushed
The destinations below check all four boxes.

Menorca, Spain
Menorca feels like the quieter, more refined sister of Mallorca.
What I love about Menorca is that it still feels relatively untouched compared to some of the Mediterranean's more well-known islands. You'll find beautiful coves, amazing restaurants, charming towns, and luxury boutique hotels, but without the crowds that can come with some of Europe's more well-known honeymoon destinations.
One thing I find particularly appealing for honeymooners is the pace. Menorca encourages you to slow down. If your idea of a honeymoon involves beach days, leisurely dinners, and beautiful hotels rather than checking off a list of attractions, Menorca deserves a spot on your shortlist.
My hotel favorites:
The Douro Valley, Portugal
When most travelers think of Portugal, they think of Lisbon or the Algarve. The Douro Valley often gets overlooked, and I think that's a big mistake.
The scenery is stunning, the wine culture is incredible, and the luxury hotel scene has become increasingly impressive over the last several years.
Imagine spending your days visiting vineyards, enjoying long lunches overlooking the river, and returning to a beautiful hotel tucked into the hills. The Douro Valley works particularly well when paired with Porto (or even Lisbon) for a honeymoon that balances city and countryside.
My hotel favorites:
Sifnos, Greece
When couples tell me they want Greece but aren't interested in checking off the most famous islands, Sifnos is often one of the first places I mention.
The island is known for its incredible food scene, charming whitewashed villages, beautiful hiking trails, and laid-back atmosphere.
Unlike some of Greece's larger islands, Sifnos feels refreshingly unhurried. Days are spent wandering village streets, lingering over long lunches, and swimming in quiet coves.
It's the kind of place where honeymooners naturally slow down and settle into the rhythm of island life.
And if you’re interested in island hopping, Sifnos pairs well with Paros, Mykonos, and even Santorini.
My hotel favorites:
Puglia, Italy
One thing I see often is couples assuming they need to visit Tuscany or the Amalfi Coast because they're planning an Italy honeymoon.
While those destinations are popular for a reason, Puglia offers a completely different side of Italy.
You get a bit of everything: whitewashed towns, centuries-old olive groves, beautiful beach clubs, charming masserias, and some of the best food in the country. For couples looking for a honeymoon that feels relaxed and slightly less expected, Puglia is hard to beat.

Athens Riviera, Greece
Most travelers land in Athens and immediately leave, but I think they're missing one of the most exciting luxury destinations in Europe.
The Athens Riviera offers a combination of beautiful hotels, beach clubs, excellent dining, and surprisingly easy logistics.
For couples who don't want to spend their honeymoon constantly unpacking and moving between destinations, it's an excellent option.
My hotel favorites:
Madeira, Portugal
If your idea of a honeymoon involves gorgeous scenery, Madeira may be one of the most underrated destinations in Europe.
The island feels completely different from mainland Portugal. Often referred to as the "Hawaii of Europe," Madeira is filled with dramatic cliffs, hiking trails, ocean views, and beautiful hotels perched above the water.
It is ideal for couples who want something active without sacrificing comfort or luxury.
My hotel favorites:
Piedmont, Italy
Piedmont doesn't receive nearly as much attention as Tuscany, but I think that's part of its appeal.
This region is home to some of Italy's best wine, incredible restaurants, and beautiful countryside. It's sophisticated without feeling flashy.
For couples who prioritize food, wine, and a slower pace of travel, Piedmont is one of my favorite recommendations.

How Early Should You Start Planning a Luxury Honeymoon for 2027?
For most luxury honeymoons, I recommend beginning the planning process at least 9-12 months before travel.
The most sought-after room categories often book well in advance. Starting early gives you access to the best availability, better flight options, and more flexibility when building your itinerary.
My Take
One thing I always tell honeymoon couples is that you don't need to choose the destination everyone else is choosing.
Some of the most memorable trips I've planned have been the ones that felt a little unexpected.
Whether that's sipping wine in the Douro Valley, relaxing at a masseria in Puglia, or spending a week along the Athens Riviera, there are countless ways to create a honeymoon that feels personal to you.
